URGENT, a new fashion line by artist and Director of Behaviour Michael Portnoy, is launching at Wilfried Lentz with the Spring 2020 collection of ugly and ridiculously expensive ceramic Tactical Trainers, upper-body-sized Industrial Felt Emblem Necklaces, and White Mutes (imagine the thing you stick in a trumpet to mute it, but for annoying white people’s mouths).
URGENT wearables and unwearables not only address the most urgent issues of our time, they employ front-line technology to take direct action: sniffing out ancient pathogens, enforcing moral imperatives, fact-checking, chemically instilling empathy, terraforming, and quantum-mining asteroids.
The launch party takes place on Friday 24 January from 6–9pm at the gallery. The exhibition runs till 29 February.

Michael Portnoy’s practice spans dance-theater, vocal power-tools, Relational Stalinism, reptangles, abstract gambling, the improvement of biennials, and Icelandic cockroach porn. His art circles the rules of play and communication – language itself playing a crucial role in the works.
Recent shows and performances by Michael Portnoy includes venues as Steirische Herbst in Graz; Akademie der Künste der Welt, Cologne; Liverpool Biennial; Witte de With, Rotterdam; KW in Berlin; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Nuit Blanche, Paris; The Kitchen, New York; Palais de Tokyo in Paris; the 11th Baltic Triennial; dOCUMENTA(13); De Appel, Amsterdam; Objectif Exhibitions, Antwerp and Performa New York.
Our show coincides with Michael Portnoy’s soloshow Progressive Touch at De Vleeshal in Middelburg (NL). Please click here for more info. Michael Portnoy will also particpate at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2020 with screenings of Progressive Touch in the weekend after our opening.
