Red Day 1966, 2010

On March 25, 1966, more than 50.000 anti-war protesters took part in a rally in New York City, organized by the National Committee to End the War and led by the SDS, Women Strike for Peace and SANE. Spread across the six panels of the work are six sections of one photographic image of that crowd.

The paintings are models of how that moment of aspiration might be refigured, six views, six individuals, six historical proposals.
